24 de jul. de 2007 · Few prehistoric animals have captured the imaginations of paleontologists so profoundly as has Argentavis magnificens from the upper Miocene (≈6 million years ago) of Argentina with its enormous size and predatory lifestyle. With an estimated mass of 70–72 kg and a wingspan of ≈7 m, it was the world's largest known flying bird (1–10), about the size of a Cessna 152 light aircraft.

Argentavis magnificens es una especie extinta de ave Catartiforme de la familia Teratornithidae, es la única especie descubierta del género Argentavis. Los restos fósiles fueron encontrados en Argentina en el año 1979; se cree que se extinguió en el Mioceno superior, entre ocho a seis millones de años antes del presente.

It stood at an impressive height of 1.5 meters (5 feet), making it one of the largest flying birds ever to exist. With its massive size and robust build, the Argentavis was capable of soaring effortlessly through the air.
