On 20 July 1964 Yoko Ono first performed Cut Piece, a work in which the. audience cuts the clothing from her body piece by piece (Fig. 1). As part of an. evening of works billed as a 'Contemporary American Avant-Garde Music Concert', Ono shared the stage of Kyoto's Yamaichi Concert Hall with Tony Cox and Al Wonderlick.
