From the first Hydra-Matic in 1940 through the Rocket V-8’s in the ’50’s to the FWD Tornado of the ’60’s, they were GM’s technology leader and not afraid to experiment. Although the ’70’s Cutlasses were extremely popular, they seemed to have lost their edge a bit by the end of that decade.
