Peg died almost instantly on the day (night, actually) she jumped--September 16th! The reason her death certificate states "Date of Death" as September 18th is because that is when the coroner "declared her." You have to understand something about 1932 Los Angeles as opposed to today. Today the certificate would read a bit differently.
