The first transmission date is quoted here as the 14th March, 1968, but consensus seems to have it as the 9th September, 1955.

Despite being a working farm (one presumes) the only other animals, apart from Spotty Dog, that made regular appearances was Buttercup the cow and Dobbin the Donkey, and Sam the Farmhand was on -er, hand, to help with the daily chores.
