To Don Quixote, the forest seems to be full of monsters and giants. Sancho Panza settles Don Quixote down to sleep, while he runs off for help. At the wedding of Gamache and Kitri, Basilio pretends to stab himself out of heartbroken grief. As he lies "dying", he asks Kitri to marry him and for Don Quixote to bless their union. As part of this request he comically and playfully steals a kiss from her every few seconds.
