The charges against him and his fellow indictees include murder, drugs and arms smuggling. The 42-count indictment is the fruit of a three-year investigation into crime across the New York area.
Bellomo is believed to have taken over the Genovese crime family after the death of Gigante in 2005. He is believed to have been involved in a number of criminal activities, including loan sharking, extortion, and gambling. Bellomo is estimated to have a net worth of $10 million.
