Nato a Long Island ( New York) il 7 ottobre 1966 da padre italiano e da madre greca [1], frequenta la Brown University, entra nella Yale School of Music e poco dopo si trasferisce in Italia, a Venezia, dove lavora con il compositore classico Luigi Nono [2], e torna a Los Angeles dove studia sotto la supervisione di Jerry Goldsmith .
