On April 18, 1997, Junior Jones scored a 12-round unanimous decision over Mexico’s Marco Antonio Barrera to retain the WBO 122-pound title at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas. The official scores were 116-111, 114-113 and 114-112. Five months earlier, Jones, known as “Poison,” had dethroned Barrera in Tampa, Florida.
