Actor. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as Lionel Herbert Blythe. He was the oldest child of stage perfomer Maurice Blythe who had gained fame as Maurice Barrymore and his wife Georgina Drew the daughter of celebrated actor John Drew. Lionel along with his sister Ethel and brother John, all aspired for careers away from the stage but were all forced into the family vocation.

John Barrymore (born John Sidney Blyth; February 14 or 15, 1882 – May 29, 1942) was an American actor on stage, screen, and radio. A member of the Drew and Barrymore theatrical families, he initially tried to avoid the stage, and briefly attempted a career as an artist, but appeared on stage together with his father Maurice in 1900, and then his sister Ethel the following year.
Early Years. Lionel Barrymore made his stage debut at age 15 when he appeared with his grandmother in a production of Sheridan’s The Rivals (1775). He appeared with actress-manager Nance O’Neil, with his uncle John Drew, and toured with J.A. Herne in Sag Harbor (1900). In 1905-1906, he appeared with his younger brother, John, in the one act play Pantaloon.
