The Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) of China is China’s most senior musical institute offering accredited examinations to applicants. The Standard Grade Examination Committee of the CCOM has the mandate of expanding musical education and its stylistic tradition, and it provides authoritative musical achievement level assessment for overseas Chinese instrumental musicians and students.
The Central Conservatory was founded in 1950 and in 2000 it came under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education. Departments include composition, conducting, musicology, voice and opera, piano, Western orchestral instruments, Chinese traditional instruments, music education, music and information technology, music therapy.

The conservatory Music Library housing over 500,000 volumes is the largest one of the kind in China. The Conservatory owns over 500 pianos and a large number of other musical I instruments; its educational facilities include an electronic music studio with advanced recording and video equipments, and a violin workshop.
