History and Politics is anchored in a first-year paper called ‘Evidence and Argument’ in which Caius Fellows play a central role. ‘History and Modern Languages’ picks up on long-standing interest in early modern and modern European history at the college, including attention to histories of Italy, Germany and France.
The College has a vibrant scientific community, including the student-driven Caius Natural Sciences Society. The Director of Studies in Biological Sciences is Dr David Summers (Genetics), and the Directors of Studies in Physical Sciences are Prof John Ellis (Physics) and Dr Andrew Bond (Chemistry).
The College Council has approved the following guiding principles to achieve this balance: i) The Endowment needs to be increased to £300m; ii) The Endowment withdrawal rate should be reduced to 2%; iii) Donations should be used to build the endowment and not to fund current year activities, other than the annual fund.
