Wallace Beery is a big worldbuilding factor in the 1991 Coen Brothers movie Barton Fink. In that film Beery's movies in the 1930s are framed as the most dumb, mercenary, and worthless sort of Hollywood busywork, that the studio would just crank out with a sort of contempt. I don't know quite what he did to be remembered that way, but he probably pissed some people off.
