To create a Prometheus data source in Grafana: Click on the "cogwheel" in the sidebar to open the Configuration menu. Click on "Data Sources". Click on "Add data source". Select "Prometheus" as the type. Adjust other data source settings as desired (for example, choosing the right Access method).

Prometheus can be configured as a receiver for the Prometheus remote write protocol. This is not considered an efficient way of ingesting samples. Use it with caution for specific low-volume use cases. It is not suitable for replacing the ingestion via scraping and turning Prometheus into a push-based metrics collection system.
Exporters and integrations. There are a number of libraries and servers which help in exporting existing metrics from third-party systems as Prometheus metrics. This is useful for cases where it is not feasible to instrument a given system with Prometheus metrics directly (for example, HAProxy or Linux system stats).
