Series Description. The Kraft Television Theatre was a 60 minute anthology drama series that aired live on NBC. While most of the episodes were dramas, a few comedies were thrown in for good measure. The storylines concentrated on subjects that middle-class families could relate to and included many of the most popular stars of the day.

It began May 7, 1947 on NBC, airing at 7:30pm on Wednesday evenings until December of that year. It first promoted MacLaren's Imperial Cheese, which was advertised nowhere else.[1]

Anthology series, running on NBC from 1947 to 1958. In 11 1/2 years Kraft had presented 650 plays from over. 18,845 scripts, starred and/or featured 3,955 actors and actresses in 6,750 roles.
During the 11 years it was on the air, Kraft Television Theatre presented 650 plays, which were, for the most part, presented live and employed 3,955 actors in over 6,750 roles. It was also the first dramatic series to experiment (in 1953) with colour broadcasts, and it presented two hour-long productions each week (on separate networks).
