Chartered in 1845, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor is a Christian school in central Texas and the state’s oldest continuously operating college. UMHB grants bachelor’s degrees in 51 academic programs and all first year students are enrolled in a Freshman Seminar class.
The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor traces its distinguished history to the days when Texas had yet to gain statehood and when Baptist missionary work was just beginning in the frontier Republic. As early as 1839, representatives of churches in Washington County issued an appeal to the Home Mission Board of New York to inaugurate a missionary movement in Texas.
The University of Mary Hardin–Baylor (UMHB) is a Christian university based in Texas, and was founded by the Republic of Texas in 1845 as Baylor Female College. It became a fully-fledged university in 1978, and now offers degrees at bachelor, masters and doctorate levels.
