Background. Although Kristofferson’s recording career took a dip with the disappointing Spooky Lady Sideshow, his acting career continued to ascend; after starring in Sam Peckinpah’s Pat Garret and Billy the Kid, he was cast in a supporting role in Martin Scorsese’s Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, which was a smash hit in 1975 and grossed more than $17 million nationwide.
