The resulty is Ian Gillan Band who manage to release 3 albums, the second one named Clear air turbulence being the best for sure from the all 3. Originaly released in spring of 1977 with a solid line up like predecesos , musicians coming from diffrent already well known prog and rock bands like bassist John Gustafson from Quatermass, excellent drumer Mark Nauseef from Elf fame, etc.
Back in '75 a semi-retired Ian Gillan was invited to be part of a show organized by his friend Roger Glover at the Royal Albert Hall, premiering the album "The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast".Fortunately, this triggered a comeback as a semi-solo artist, with the Ian Gillan Band, with whom he released the "Child in Time" LP, featuring some hard rock tunes with a Deep Purple residue.
This demonstrated that in spite of a flirtation with a more progressive jazz-rock approach (“Clear Air Turbulence”) the band hadn’t lost touch with their rock roots. Indeed, the third album “Scarabus” – the final Ian Gillan Band offering before the vocalist put together “Gillan” – featured shorter, rock-orientated songs.
