3 de dic. de 2014 · America’s entry into World War II offered her a way to change her life. During the following 18 months, she quit Vassar, divorced her husband, and at age 36 joined the U.S. Navy. She was sent to the Naval Reserve Midshipmen’s School at Smith College in Massachusetts, and in June 1944 graduated first in her class as Lt. Grace Hopper.

Grace attended the Hardridge School in Plainfield, New Jersey, before enrolling in Vassar College at the age of 18. In 1928, she graduated with a degree in mathematics. She went on to graduate school in mathematics at Yale, earning her master’s degree in 1930 and her Ph.D. in 1934. In 1930, Grace met and married Vincent Hopper.
