With the success of the single, the group began an album amidst lineup changes. Gene Gunnels left the group (he would return in 1969), and was replaced by Randy Seol. The group also brought in a second bassist, George Bunnell, to help with the songwriting. Bunnell, in turn, brought along his collaborator, Steve Bartek (later of Oingo Boingo).
