Mládí Lou Reed během studií, 1959. Lewis Allan Reed se narodil dne 2. března 1942 v nemocnici Beth El v newyorském obvodu Brooklyn. Byl prvorozeným synem ženy v domácnosti Toby a účetního Sidneyho Reeda. Pět let po narození Lewise se jim narodila dcera Elizabeth. Rodiče měli představu, že se jejich syn stane buď lékařem (matka) nebo převezme rodinnou firmu (otec).
Lewis Allan "Lou" Reed (March 2, 1942 – October 27, 2013) [1] was an American rock musician. He was originally from Long Island, New York and spent most of his life in New York City. He is remembered for being in the Velvet Underground, although he also released solo work. He was friends with artist Andy Warhol .
