By October 4, 1969, Vance, Kurt, and Melvyn had left The Fifth to work with keyboard player Hermann Frühm, backing up local artist Lucille Emond in an enterprise that did not entail the rigorous road schedule that had become the norm for The Fifth. The idea for BROTHER began to take shape during this period.
