Ha sido reconocida mundialmente como una de las mujeres artistas más relevantes de la historia. 2004 La reina Isabel de Inglaterra le otorgó la condecoración Order of the British Empire. 2005 Premio Nacional de Bellas Artes y nombrada Ciudadana de Honor de México.
