From Wikipedia Paul Bern (December 3, 1889 – September 5, 1932) was a German-born American film director, screenwriter and producer for MGM. Bern was born Paul Levy in Wandsbek, which was then a town in the Prussian province of Schleswig-Holstein (now a district of the city of Hamburg). He was one of six children of Julius and Henriette (née Hirsch) Levy, a Jewish couple.

Some even call him a genius. After leaving school, Bern made his way to New York where he worked as a stage actor before transitioning to work for a film company in Toronto, Canada.

Paul Bern wurde in Wandsbek, einer damals noch selbständigen Ortschaft, die erst 1937 im Rahmen des Großhamburggesetzes von Schleswig-Holstein nach Hamburg gekommen ist, geboren. Er verbrachte seine Kindheit und Jugend in den USA, wo er seit 1911 eine Karriere als Bühnenschauspieler und Produzent begann.
