Freddie Redd (Nueva York, 29 de mayo de 1928-Ibidem, 17 de marzo de 2021) [1] fue un pianista y compositor estadounidense de Hard bop. [2] Es conocido fundamentalmente por ser el autor de la banda sonora de la película The Connection (1959).

15 de feb. de 2008 · Shades of Redd is a 1960 session featuring fantastic interplay between tenor saxophonist Tina Brooks, alto saxophonist Jackie McLean, ubiquitous bassist Paul Chambers, drummer Louis Hayes, and the leader, pianist Freddie Redd, who penned all seven of the compositions. This is my first exposure to Redd, who plays with a sure hand.

La meilleure étant l'édition japonaise ( Shades of Redd) sans les prises alternatives (qui ici, au nombre de deux, sont situées à la toute fin du disque). _____ (1) Il faut dire que Freddie Redd fut surtout apprécié comme compositeur et sideman plutôt que comme soliste. Dommage.
Redd recorded 1960's The Music from "The Connection" for Blue Note and Shades of Redd in 1961. He soon moved to Europe, where he performed regularly, but he became quite obscure in the U.S. In 1974, he moved to Los Angeles and issued intermittent yet worthy sessions for Interplay, Uptown, Triloka, and Milestone through 1990.
