More specifically, a group of goths struggling to cope with a culture in transition, delivered with a degree of authority and affection, what with Darnielle himself having undergone his own goth stage earlier on in his life.

There’s frontman John Darnielle’s lo-fi, Panasonic boom box beginnings. There are the polished but no less earnest tracks from The Sunset Tree and Tallahassee.
