El musical Avenue Q fue estrenado en el Vineyard Theatre del Off-Broadway en marzo de 2003, bajo la dirección de Jason Moore, y posteriormente la producción fue transferida al John Golden Theatre de Broadway en julio de ese mismo año. Recibió el Tony en las categorías de Mejor Libreto, Mejor Partitura y Mejor Musical. En 2006 fue estrenado con gran éxito en el West End londinense.
