Overall, a lot of people agree the movie fits snugly into a Dark Age of Technology story of a ship entering the warp without a Geller Shield. Fun stuff. This is actually a very, very popular fan theory. The creators of Event Horizon themselves even went out and said that any connection to WH40K is purely coincidental.
It's a literal black ship both in looks, reference and function. It's clear that the writer was inspired to make the episode into a Warhammer 40K homage, admitting much like Eisner that 40K played a big role since his younger years. As for Event Horizon, the journey took place in 2047, well before warp technology was a thing.

You can interpret it as a 40k movie, I suppose, but it definitely isn’t intended and has very little in common with 40k aside from the similarity between 40k’s warp travel and Event Horizon’s Gravity Drive both leading to hell. Despite what keeps being repeated here, the explicit canon of 40k makes it impossible. The main powers of the warp before the Age of Strife were the Eldar Pantheon, not the Chaos Gods, and so while incursion into warpspace would be escheresque and sense-defying, it wouldn't be what we consider "demonic" in the third millenium during which EVENT HORIZON takes place.
