There is no standard term for this, but distal seems to fit both aesthetically and etymologically with the other two (horizontal from horizon, and vertical ultimately from vertex "highest point"), assuming the following perspective: with distal referring to "distant" points.
13 de abr. de 2016 · I want to work with the terms horizontal/vertical, but there's no term I can find to describe the z axis. Furthermore, from what I've read, many people define the horizontal direction as being the horizontal and vertical direction, with height being described as the vertical direction i.e, horizontal = area, vertical = height.
21 de feb. de 2018 · I am thinking “vert” and “horiz” could be good, for vertical and horizontal. But I'm not sure if they would add to confusion, since they deviate from the standard terminology. I am also considering “port” and “land” as well, but I don't like that those words have their own meanings by themselves. It could cause confusion.
19 de abr. de 2014 · This would answer the original title of the question, which only specified synonyms for "horizontal" and "vertical" -- they're all directions. There can be many cells that are orthogonal, but not necessarily neighboring/touching. –
The convention is that x would occupy the horizontal axis, while y occupies the vertical axis, regardless if x is plotted against y, or y against x. Visually, which often would appear mutually indiscriminatable for 1-1 mapping plots.
8 de sept. de 2015 · Orthogonal does not imply horizontal and vertical movement. Orthogonal implies that one movement is at a right angle with respect to the other. Horizontal and diagonal movements are thus always orthogonal, but two diagonal movements can also be orthogonal to each other. In fact, the two diagonal movements in chess are orthogonal to each other.

This would suggest that section is only appropriate for vertical planes. However, section is more generally defined as, per dictionary.com:

In paneled (rather than glazed) doors, the horizontal members dividing the panels are rails and the vertical members are stiles. The larger horizontal members of a sash may also be called rails. 13 de dic. de 2015 · 'Horizontal' means 'relating to the horizon', so strictly speaking whether a split is vertical or horizontal depends on its orientation relative to the ground. Or less strictly, 'horizontal' is whatever the observer considers to be left/right rather than up/down.

You're looking for a word that reminds people of horizontal and vertical but you don't want to use any existing mathematical words to avoid confusion. You want a word, new to mathematics, that will just be for your idea. I have one. It certainly evokes horizontal and vertical.
