The Time Machine, on the other hand, feels synthetic and false. I just could not buy into the story here. It is so very underwhelming. It’s one of those pieces of writing in which the idea behind it causes the work to be celebrated but the actual thing itself, the language, the plot and the characters, are as dull as dishwater.
