Erich Fromm nació el 23 de marzo de 1900 en Frankfurt del Main, Alemania. Familia Hijo único de Rosa Krauze y el comerciante de vinos ortodoxo-judío Naphtali Fromm. Tan solo tenía catorce años cuando estalló la I Guerra Mundial, quedando realmente impresionado por la naturaleza de la conducta humana siendo incapaz de comprender un acto tan irracional.

Erich Fromm was a neo-Freudian psychoanalyst who suggested a theory of personality based on two primary needs: the need for freedom and the need for belonging. He suggested that people develop certain personality styles or strategies to deal with the anxiety created by feelings of isolation.

Erich Fromm nació en Frankfurt, Alemania en 1900. Era el hijo de un comerciante de lana y seda, y estudió derecho y sociología en la Universidad de Heidelberg. Fromm se interesó en la psicología después de leer a Sigmund Freud y otros psicoanalistas. En 1930, se mudó a Berlín para estudiar con el psicoanalista Frieda Reichmann.
