That autumn, Gee and Dennis recorded the third series of their Laughter Show. From 20 December 1985, Gee and Dennis appeared in pantomime at the Southport Theatre, Merseyside. At 8.15pm on 1 January 1986, Gee suffered a massive heart attack, while playing one of the ugly sisters in Cinderella, a role they had played two years before in Bradford.

They starred in their own series, The Laughter Show, until Gee’s sudden death in 1986. Les Dennis continued The Laughter Show as a solo performer, and also became the third host of the game show Family Fortunes, which he presented for 15 years from 1987 to 2002.

En 1988 presentó su propia serie de televisión, The Joe Longthorne Show. Longthorne apareció regularmente en varios programas de televisión en la década de 1980, entre los que se destacan The Les Dennis Laughter Show y The Royal Variety Performance.
