  2. Lyle Mays (November 27, 1953 - February 10, 2020) was an American jazz pianist from Wausaukee, Wisconsin. He is best known for his work with guitarist Pat Metheny as a member of the Pat Metheny Group, in which he collaborated with Metheny in composition and provided arrangements, orchestration and - most remarkably - the complex harmonic and metric backbone of the group's musical signature.

LYLE: In a way, Fictionary is a sort of tribute album to the pianists that have had the greatest impact on my playing, (Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and Paul Bley were singled out). I guess they are my favorites because they move me, (first and foremost), but also because of the level of conception and execution.
