De broers Gregg en Duane Allman groeiden op in Florida in Daytona Beach.Ze speelden in verschillende bands, waaronder The Escorts, de Allman Joys, de Hour Glass en The Allman Brothers Band.Met de Hour Glass kregen ze hun platencontract in Los Angeles.

Gregg Allman said in a 1998 interview with The Associated Press that he and Betts mourned his brother’s death in music. “We used to write songs in a graveyard in Macon,” Allman said. “One thing everybody thought was Duane would come back to haunt us if we did not keep going. Gregg Allman died due to complications from liver cancer at his home in Savannah, GA on May 17, 2017. He played his last show October 29, 2016 at his own Laidback Festival in Atlanta, Ga. Gregg’s legacy will undoubtedly live on in his music.
