Originally formed to replace the Artettes as back_up for the Ike and Tina Revue, the early Ikettes featured Robbie Montgomery, Venetta Fields and Jessie Smith.
The Ikettes were originally a trio of female vocalists formed to back up the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. First known as the Artettes, the trio later changed it's name and began to record in 1960 ("A Fool In Love" with Tina Turner). In 1965 the most well-known trio of Venetta Fields, Jessie Smith and Robbie Montgomery left the Ike & Tina Turner revue to record under the name The Mirettes.
