The Chieftains sind eine 1962 gegründete irische Musikgruppe, die vor allem für traditionelle irische Musik bekannt ist. Die Band nahm viele Instrumentalalben mit Irish Folk auf; dazu kamen zahlreiche Kooperationen mit Musikern unterschiedlichster Stile wie Country , Rock ’n’ Roll oder auch traditionelle galicische Musik, von der Kap-Breton-Insel oder aus Neufundland .
De Chieftains hebben met diverse bekende muzikanten samengewerkt. Op de cd The Long Black Veil treden ze op met Sting, Mick Jagger, Sinéad O'Connor, Van Morrison, Mark Knopfler, Ry Cooder, Marianne Faithfull, Tom Jones en The Rolling Stones. Ter nagedachtenis aan de overleden Derek Bell werd in 2005 de CD A Life from Dublin.

The Chieftains. The Chieftains sono un gruppo tra i più famosi al mondo di folk irlandese . Il nome Chieftain deriva dalla traduzione della parola gaelica irlandese Taoiseach (ma esistono gli analoghi tòiseach e tywysog rispettivamente in gaelico scozzese e in gallese ), che significa capo clan.
