Early in his screen acting career, he appeared with Audie Murphy and Bill Mauldin in the 1951 film, The Red Badge of Courage. He had one brother, Rick Dano, who became a musician. Royal Jr served in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1967 as a Fireman Apprentice. He then followed his father’s footsteps and pursued an acting career.
