Dick Martin. Thomas Richard Martin (January 30, 1922 [1] – May 24, 2008) was an American comedian and director. He was known for his role as the co-host of the sketch comedy program Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In from 1968 to 1973.

Born the only child of carnival workers in Beggs, Oklahoma, at the age of 4, he was dancing and singing in a touring carnival with his parents, but, by the age of 11, was orphaned and, according to his obituary in the Los Angeles Times, placed in an orphanage in Colorado where he was adopted.
