She attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and upon graduating she began her acting career on stage by joining the Royal Exchange Theatre. She was awarded Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2008 Queen's Birthday Honours List for her services to drama. ###

Janet McTeer feared she would have to quit acting when she hit 50. "I worried I would have to give up because I couldn't take dull parts after so many brilliant roles," says the actress.
Janet McTeer OBE (born August 5, 1961) is an English actress. She began her career training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before earning acclaim for playing diverse roles on stage and screen in both period pieces and modern dramas. She has received numerous accolades including a Tony Award, a Olivier Award, a Golden Globe Award and nominations for two Academy Award and Primetime Emmy Award.
