It happens when a hit to the head or body causes your head and brain to move rapidly back and forth. This sudden movement can cause the brain to bounce around or twist in the skull, creating chemical changes in your brain.
Key points about concussion. A blow or a jolt to the head can cause a concussion. Symptoms such as headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or trouble thinking can happen right away, or they may come on gradually over time. Call a healthcare provider right away or go to the emergency room if a person loses consciousness after a blow to the head.
