12 de feb. de 2022 · A sample at random, from the Joe Newman octet album: Al Cohn’s arrangement of Dream A Little Dream Of Me opens with what sounds like trumpet over a close-harmony saxophone section which is actually two saxes and a trombone; comes the middle eight and it’s solo trumpet with accompanying figures alternating harmony and unison.

Newman was a multi-tasker in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. He recorded, taught, and occasionally reunited with the Basie Orchestra. In the ’70s, he had nice sessions with Ruby Braff (and Jimmy Rowles) and Joe Wilder (and Hank Jones) in the ’80s.
