1 de ene. de 2024 · The Holy Modal Rounders was an American folk music group, originally the duo of Peter Stampfel and Steve Weber, who began performing together on the Lower East Side of New York City in the early 1960s. Their unique blend of folk music revival and psychedelia gave them a cult-like following from the late 1960s into the 1970s.
3 de may. de 2018 · The unearthing of a 1965 live performance by a highly regarded cult band such as the Holy Modal Rounders, who only put out four albums during the 1960s, undeniably holds some lure for fans. Yet, even judged as an artifact, this release is somewhat disappointing.

And so it ended, until now. The Holy Modal Rounders Live in 65 is a long buried treasure for fans of the original Rounders.
Storia del gruppo. Esordirono nel 1964 con il primo album omonimo, a cui segui l'anno successivo The Holy Modal Rounders 2.Dopo i questi due album, Stampfel e Weber entrarono nei Fugs con cui registrarono 3 album. Il gruppo si ricostituì come quartetto con l'attore Sam Shepard e Lee Crabtree. Ci furono poi altri cambi di formazione, il gruppo si trasferì a Boston e poi nell'Oregon.
