  1. 5 de jul. de 2012 · Doc at the Radar Station review. Writer unknown, this first appeared in the 30th November edition of Circus. As in Captain Beefheart’s best music over the past 14 years, at the cholesterol-filled heart of his new album there is one big, intriguing contradiction. The songs are crawling with grotesque lyrical imagery and bluesy, growling vocals ...

  2. 22 de ago. de 2015 · Captain Beefheart's Discography: Part XI. ok we had one good album. Let's go back to mid. Sure it fails mostly due to its artististry not translating to me. The production is dry and we've gone from such colourful production on the last album to one of beefheart's dullest sounding records. Beefheart's voice starts sounding here at points TOO ...

  3. 5 de jul. de 2012 · Indeed, it says a lot about the rather oblique nature of the Captain’s music that “Doc at the Radar Station” is among his more accessible works, and it’s still pretty far out there. With its many herky-jerky rhythms and off-kilter arrangements, “Doc” is in many ways a typical Beefheart opus, intended to shake up the rock ‘n’ roll status quo.

I've known half of these songs for the past 20 years because they were featured on compilation releases. I finally completed my Beefheart collection with Doc At The Radar Station's arrival earlier this week.

  7. There is an excellent article by Sean Kitching on The Quietus website marking 40 years since the release of Doc at the Radar Station. It includes insights about the recording of Don’s penultimate album from new interviews with Gary Lucas and Eric Drew Feldman.
