Summary: “The Hitchhiker”. “ The Hitchhiker” is a short radio play by acclaimed screenwriter Lucille Fletcher, first presented in 1941 on the Orson Welles Show. Welles and his Mercury Theater performed the suspenseful story of Ronald Adams, a man who is haunted by a mysterious hitchhiker during a cross-country road trip.
An anthology series of stories, linked only by the character of The Hitchhiker, who introduces and also closes each episode in the style of Rod Serling or Alfred Hitchcock. Occasional stories involved supernatural forces, but most plot twists stemmed only from the dark side of the human spirit.

19 de ene. de 2021 · With the background knowledge that the initial episodes were EC adaptations, The Hitchhiker‘s position in the genre’s landscape becomes more apparent – essentially, the show served as a dry run for HBO’s successful, long running Tales From The Crypt series (which would launch in 1989, 2 years after The Hitchhiker left HBO for the USA Network) – albeit with more sex and less gore.
