Having become increasingly self-reliant in the studio, 1985's Secret Secrets would be the last time Armatrading worked with a producer. More of a collaborative affair with the aid of Mike Howlett, the album was embraced by fans, reaching the Top 20 in spite of delivering no hits, and was also notable for its cover, shot by iconic New York photographer Robert Mapplethorpe.

Joan Armatrading (Basseterre (Saint Kitts), 9 december 1950) is een Kittitiaans-Engelse zangeres, songwriter en gitarist. Haar repertoire is niet onder één noemer te plaatsen; haar muziek omvatte aanvankelijk elementen uit de rock , rhythm-and-blues en folk en later ook uit de jazz en reggae .
Album Description. Two years having passed since her last studio record, Joan Armatrading re-emerged with yet another producer (new wave veteran Mike Howlett) on Secret Secrets. Some of the material on here is very good, but the commercial momentum that had built up behind her during the early '80s was beginning to dissipate.

Secret Secrets . Joan Armatrading Format: Audio CD. 4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 25 ratings. ... Joan Armatrading is genuine and unpretentious, and she could certainly teach a thing or two to some of the arrivistes of the time, even though she is a little past her prime here. Glad the CD is available again, I look forward to giving it a spin.
