Manitou Island is a remote island located in Lake Superior, about 10 miles north of the Michigan mainland. It is part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and is home to various ecosystems, including forests, wetlands, and dunes. The island is approximately 8 miles long and 3 miles wide, with a total land area of 22 square miles.
Niagara Falls were formed about 10,000 years ago, by the same forces that created the Great Lakes and the Niagara River. The area was carved by a continental ice sheet, which retreated at the end of the last ice age. The Great Bear Lake is located in Canada’s Northwest Territories, on the Arctic Circle, at an altitude of 186 meters (or 610 feet). Its name originates from the word "satudene" in Denesuline, which means “grizzly bear water people”. The lake was discovered around 1800 by traders from the North West Company.
