While they were a durable mainstay on the R&B front at the top of the '80s, the S.O.S. Band were in need of a change of pace. The band's last two solid efforts, 1981's Too and 1982's III didn't make much of a splash commercially, so for their fourth album, 1983's On the Rise, they went for the big stakes.
