There is a familiar passage in Aristotle ‘s Nicomachean Ethics (1147a20, b12) in which the incontinent person, who does what he says he ought not to do, is compared to a drunken man reciting the verses of Empedocles. Scholars are undecided why Empedocles comes into the picture here.
