Monsters and Robots follows Bucketheadland (1992), Giant Robot (1994), The Day of the Robots (1996), and Colma (1998), an acoustic album. What ties the first three albums together is ambient sounds (sometimes bizarre and/or quirky), weird skits, difficult instrumental passages, experimentation, and a sci-fi tone.

This album is by far the most fun I've had listening to Buckethead since I began listening to his work. With his fantastic guitar work, coupled with the writing of Les Claypool, who also features as bassist for the majority of the track listing, this is definitely up there as one of his best works.
