McDowell joined ELO in 1972 when he was only 19 years old. He briefly left the band with ELO founding member Roy Wood to form the glam rock band Wizzard, but returned to ELO in 1973 to replace cellist Colin Walker.

Another great loss for the fans of ELO / JEFF difficult to assume for the wonderful contribution of him to the string section of the band. Our sincere condolences to the family and friends.
